Les Misérables Movie Feels Like a Live Production
I am a huge fan of musicals! One day, I may be eighty years old and it may be a community theater, but I am determined to play Maria from the Sound of Music before I leave this earth.
Don’t worry – I’ll invite you all!
Having the opportunity to see a sneak preview of Les Misérables was such a privilege. I have never seen a live production of Les Misérables, but this movie absolutely makes you feel as if you are watching a live production.
Based on the novel by Victor Hugo, the movie opens on the last day of Jean Valjean’s 19 year prison sentence for stealing a loaf of bread. Javert, a policeman, has a watchful eye for Valjean. As soon as Valjean breaks parole, Javert is on the hunt to find Valjean.
On his journey, Valjean promises to care for Fantine’s daughter Cosette.
Anne Hathaway’s performance as Fantine is breathtaking. She had me in tears.
One of the special things I learned about this movie was that each and ever song was recorded live on set. The director, Tom Hooper, wanted the performances to truly come through the screen and they absolutely did!
While, I think the film itself is for a mature audience due to the subject nature, I highly recommend this movie. Whether you are a fan of musicals or not, I think you will be moved with the beauty of the story and the amazing talent of the performance from each actor. This film is truly a holiday treat.
I received two tickets to an advanced screening of Les Misérables. All opinions are my own.
